Overview – How a Concept Became an App Success

A St. Louis area business partnership with a love of all-things-cars reached out to Swip Systems to brainstorm an app idea … they wanted to create an app that would provide the online car, truck, RV, motorcycle, boat and implement buyer with peace of mind and confidence that the vehicle he or she is considering buying is exactly as advertised BEFORE the purchase. 

This team envisioned the app also providing honest vehicle sellers with prospects far beyond their current marketplace (nationwide) and an additional revenue stream for paid r8trs – people who know a lot about cars, trucks, RVs, and motorcycles willing to be the eyes, ears, and hands of out-of-town buyers.

What began as a concept became a reality as Swip Systems moved forward with the r8tr asset verification mobile app’s design, prototyping, and development, and managed it through testing and go-live. Now, it is not only a successful app, it is a growing company.

The Challenge – Build an Asset Verification Mobile App Like No Other

The challenge for Swip Systems was to take the r8tr mobile app concept and turn it into an easy-to-use, high-functioning app that would send a reputable, knowledgeable person to physically inspect a vehicle for sale, then send a full vehicle inspection report to the buyer. 

We were up to the challenge of putting this custom mobile app in the hands of online buyers and r8trs with convenient features and create an asset verification app like no other.

The Process – From Mobile App Concept to Market Launch & Beyond

The Swip Systems team and the r8tr partnership created a budget and moved into the planning stage, where we defined core purpose, functionality, and timeline, and began wireframing. Then we defined and honed what they wanted their app to do and look like – this phase always generates a lot of back-and-forth until the app meets the Minimum Viable Product (MVP). The MVP is the basic product that is first launched with the intent of monitoring user feedback and implementing updates that improve the software later. 

Once everyone was happy with the MVP design, we proceeded into the mobile app development stage, where the Swip team continued to develop, test, release, tweak, and repeat until the mobile app was ready to be market-tested. 

In this strategic partnership, our team worked with the r8tr team to take actionable steps to create, coordinate, and turn their “idea” into a marketable product, expedite the software and mobile app development process, and get to market faster.

The mobile app development and launch process looks something like this:

  • Flesh out concepts that are only an idea.
  • Take the product ideas to the discovery stage and assess if they are actionable.
  • Develop a go-to-market strategy and work toward the “go-live” date.
  • Collaboratively create a mockup or “wireframe” of all concepts.
  • Think through the process for the Minimal Viable Product (MVP).
  • Hash-out suggested core features and develop those that make sense.
  • Work out any bugs; implement beta testing and fix quirks fast.
  • Go live and manage initial functionality as the app is downloaded and used.
  • Work with our internal team and support the technology going forward.

The r8tr app launched in October 2019 with great fanfare. It has changed the face of online asset purchasing and created an honest selling environment. Once a prospective buyer downloads the free app, he or she enters the basic information and details about the vehicle they wish to purchase, and then the app sends a request for a pre-qualified r8tr in the designated area.
